And I'd like for you to meet my grief, but denial can be a hell of a thing to work through; so come meet them all, and consider each turned page a handshake with a personal truth beyond reality. Because the tales contained within, those both tall and true, are certainly eager and ready to meet with you.

This book was written by my son. It is his first book and I am very proud of what he has accomplished. I was truly amazed at his skill in creative writing. I must admit I rushed through some of the highly artistic prose within his book in my quest to reveal more of the story. None-the-less I recognize the talent within. I plan to read it again, slowly, like a good poem, and try and grasp the deeper concepts and symbolism. I was increasingly impatient with the growing mystery developing in the story, so I rushed through them in an attempt to get answers. If a writer's job is to make you feel some of the emotions of the main character then he did a fine job because I was feeling the same level of impatience. The mystery was growing and I couldn't wait to read the next chapter. I also think that everyone reading this story will interpret it in different ways and have their own favorite sections. I personally loved the religious indoctrination section and also the "coming of age" stories about friendship, romance, and teenage escapades. I think we can all relate to these from our own personal experiences and the writer does a wonderful job helping us experience his past through his eyes and heart. His attention to detail is just as keen in his dream world as it is in his physical world. There seems to be multiple layers to this story that will require more readings to unlock and I am looking forward to discovering them. For the writer it was his journey to accepting the loss of his friend. For others there is probably a whole lot more and you will not read this without revisiting your own past experiences and feelings.Product details

WARNING - from the first page you will be drawn into a journey that will mesmerize you. You will not be able to put this book down once you start it. Very very rarely does a book appear that makes the reader care so much about the character and at the same time have a storyline that is this compelling. You won't regret a minute of this read and you will be disappointed when the story ends. A thought provoking journey where the real world and other worlds collide. Not just a great read, but a really really great read that will leave you with more questions than answers.
My Best Friend With Wings is a poignant first novel from author Pete Vellucci Jr. The book begins conventionally enough, with the main character returning to his hometown to attend a benefit concert for his estranged and recently deceased best friend. But after a strange meeting with an even stranger girl, things soon take a turn for the bizarre. Suddenly, the main character finds himself in a life-or-death battle against the worst kind of demon--those of his own making.
The plot weaves in and out of reality throughout the book, a technique which successfully replicates the trancelike nature of grief. Although the story is a tad confusing in the first half, as the pieces start to fit together (both for the reader and the protagonist) it becomes harder and harder to put the book down until you reach its riveting and affecting conclusion.
A brave first novel. I'll be looking for more!
